Originally, these apartments were named the Marye’s Heights Apartment Complex.[1. William B. Crawley, Jr., University of Mary Washington: A Centennial History,1908-2008 (Fredericksburg, VA: University of Mary Washington Foundation, 2008), 542.] The apartments were acquired from the Silver Companies, a large real estate firm in the Fredericksburg area.[2. Ibid.] Issues arose with acquiring the apartments due to many long-term tenants living in the apartments that would need to be ousted.[3. Ibid.] The University The University Apartments are also referred to as the Apartments at UMW. The University of Mary Washington finalize the sale of the apartments until 2001 and by the fall of 2003 students began moving into the complex.[5. Crawley, 543-544.] After Eagle Landing, the apartments are the newest accommodations for students on campus.
